Cascade Vocational Services (CVS) is part of Cascade Christian Services, a non-profit agency committed to serving and supporting individuals with disabilities in seeking and successfully sustaining community-integrated employment. This is accomplished in a professional manner that allows for the utmost dignity and respect for each participant.

CVS was created in order to address the pre-vocational and vocational needs of individuals with disabilities who were previously un-served or underserved in our community. As our mission progressed, we discovered that there were many employers who were interested in providing equal employment opportunities to people with disabilities, but were unsure about how to do so. Cascade is able to meet the employment needs of local businesses. Employers could benefit from our experience as to what vocational options are feasible and appropriate to offer and how to approach qualified potential employees. They were also tentative in how to provide training and support for potential employees in a timely and cost-effective way. CVS is able to address these concerns by providing support for employers and our applicants throughout the hiring and training process. Cascade staff continues to provide follow-up support to ensure ongoing successful employment. CVS is financed through federal, state and county contracts, which are based on each participants vocational support needs.Cascade Vocational Services contracts with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to provide assessment, training, job placement and retention, ongoing support services for supported employment, and independent living services. Cascade contracts with individuals with varying types of disabilities. All services are very individualized based on the person’s interests and level of support needs. A participant works with their DVR counselor and the CVS staff person to determine their interests, skills and abilities. CVS staff then identifies employers who are interested in hiring someone with those skills. We are also available to assist in the training process and provide ongoing support for all those involved.Cascade also contract with the Whatcom County Developmental Disabilities to provide vocational support for individual with developmental disabilities. CVS currently holds four contracts with the County. These include Individual Employment, Group Supported Employment, and pathways to employment. The participants of our program are empowered to choose their own vocational goals. All services are provided with respect of the participant and in the most integrated setting. Our hope is to increase the skill level of individuals who are seeking employment, but also to assist in building relationships for our participants. All services are provided with the health and safety of our participants being our primary concern. At CVS, we believe that every person is entitled to community integrated employment and its integral role in enhancing ones quality of life. We also think that every employer is deserving of loyal employees who will become valuable team members. By providing our support services to properly match employers and employees, we feel both of these goals can be accomplished, greatly benefiting our community.
